Here’s what to expect following the initial consultation if we conclude that one to one training is best for you…
Day 1: The Assessment
Assess, don’t guess! The most effective programs always start with an assessment. Our assessment is unique, because I designed this proprietary method based on decades of research and experience. These assessments will be vital for telling us what we need to focus on. It will help us proceed with confidence. We’ll know in what areas we can push so we can progressively pursue results. We’ll discover what areas we need to fix. This allows us to anticipate problems, rather than react to them.
Taking the mystery out of programming makes things fun and more effective. Research also shows that when you can see and understand why you are doing what you are doing, you’ll be more likely to stick with it.
We will also take tests and measures to assess body composition in a private room, and explain the results. This lets us know your lean mass and fat mass. This information is vital to clarify goals, chart your progress, and design your nutrition plan.
Adding this to the information we gathered from your initial consultation about your goals, challenges, lifestyle, and preferences, we’ll have everything we need to get you started on the right path towards your goals.
The Training Session:
Cubbies and hangers are available for you to drop off your belongings at both of our locations. Your trainer will be awaiting to individually instruct you in all phases of your workout, with the greatest degree of supervision. We are trained to ask the right questions to assess all indicators of your health, while teaching and observing you as you move. We adjust our feedback based on your style and needs to assure you learn best.
It is important to realize that our training method is different from the trends that are common in the fitness industry. Our program is people centered not program centered. Rather than fitting you into a pre-determined workout based on a type of routine we like, we fit the program to you.
Some training sessions may involve more talking, learning, demonstration, and deliberate practice. Others may leave you invigorated or working up a good sweat (and in that case, we do have a nice, clean shower!). Every few weeks, you may find yourself in the assessment room where we will reassess your body composition, review goals, and problem solve, using tactics and strategies to break bad habits and engrain positive behaviors.
If needed, your session may involve having one of our physical therapists assess an ache or injury to see if further treatment is needed. Finally, as needed we will use a whole or part of a session to thoroughly design, or redesign your nutrition program.
A huge benefit of one to one training, beyond the high level of supervision, is the flexibility in being able to change the session on the fly to adapt to injury, nutrition, reassessment, or behavior modification needed. Those who prefer a high level of supervision, or who have multiple issues that have not been previously managed are a great fit for one to one training.
